For family home evening last night we talked about strengthening our family. Seeing as that was their focus in Primary the entire year, I thought a recap would be good. Deaven and Peyton pretty much taught the lesson and then we played Jenga. I used it as an example of how strong and sturdy the tower was when we haven't poked any holes in it. We talked about how we "poke holes" in our family unit. We also talked about how sometimes one family member will be weak or stretched thin and that the rest of the family needs to be even more strong to support them. They seemed to get it.
Morgan and I had a knock down, drag out yesterday. It all started as we harmlessly walked in to the bank......
While I was adding up my deposit, Morgan took off her coat and left it on the ground. When I went up to the teller, I asked her to pick up her coat. "No." Asked her again in my nice voice, "No.". The teller witnessed this and then gave me a sticker for her. I turned to Morgan, showing her the Dora sticker and said, "Oh Morgan, you want a Dora sticker"? "Yes!!!!" "Go get your coat and I'll give you the sticker". "No!" Okay, chicka. You wanna play that way?
After a few more exchanges, I finally put the sticker in my pocket, picked her up, picked up the coat and went to the car.
She was hysterically screaming, "I want sticker"! Kicking, twisting, completely freaking out. (Have I mentioned that I love a good 5 point harness car seat?)
I turned some music on for some distraction, but there was no way in heck I was giving her a sticker after that little number. She screamed all the way home, and I ignored it. No point negotiating at this point. She clearly went into psycho child mode.
Once we got home, I went about my business (yes, I let her out of the 5 point harness car seat), but she didn't want to let it go. She started pulling at my clothes and border line "hitting" me, to which I have a zero tolerance policy in this house.
So, off she went to time out in her room. After 5 minutes, it went quiet. Making sure she was safe, I peeked in and saw that she had crawled up into her crib and went to bed. Nice.
3 hours later.............
After a wonderfully pleasant afternoon, I realized I was gonna have a late night with her if I didn't get her up. So I went into her room (with a peace offering: sippy cup of milk), and as she pulled her head off the mattress and looked at me, she had one thing to say,
"I want sticker!"
Seriously? Are you kidding me!
That child is stubborn!

Grrrr, I know that story all too well. Daphne is my stubborn kid with a very long memory. Sometimes she'll actually wake up in the middle of the night asking for mom or dad and then as soon as we go in she'll begin her rant over something that offended her earlier in the day. She won't be quiet until it's resolved in her mind. There are times the girl is in the "naughty room" (basement sewing room) at 3am. Puleez! I just want some sleep! Good luck with your cutie-pie...You'll need it.
That was so my life about one year ago. Thank goodness the fours have been better. Good for you, Mama, for holing strong!
Sounds like everybody did their job! :)
Why is the child that is the most stubborn also the one that can be the most sweet? I don't know. That would be my #2 child!
I can't believe that the first thing she thought of when you woke her up was that sticker. Funny kid!
Little girls will be the death of me!! :) But they are just so funny. And I love the FHE idea. I am totally stealing that.
Too funny. It's so hard to stick to the rules sometimes, but good for you for holding your ground.
Thanks for the playdate today. It's fun to watch them play with and around each other, and I obviously have to find Hazel a little backpack now. She wore Morgan's for the last 20 minutes.
