Each year at Aspire, Deaven has been required to do a Science Fair project that has been pretty substantial. This year, he wrapped his project around a Food Drive. He specific experimental questions was does emotional connection create generosity, or in other words, does the more emotionally attached a person feels to the person requesting it, increase their willingness to give.
He test 3 different request approaches over 30 homes. One, he left a generic flyer giving some basic info of the food drive and just left it on their porch. The second approach, was leaving the stuff on the porch, but leaving a flyer with much more emotional content, including his photo and stats about how many children are homeless in our area. The finial approach was to use the detailed flyer and talk to the neighbors in person.
The neighborhood as a whole really came through and donated almost 300 lbs of food!! Many of the residents chase Deaven down to say thank you and tell him they were proud of him.
I'm thinking by the time we get to his Eagle project, he should be very prepared on the process of doing a large scale project. He's had LOTS of experience now......
