A POST FROM WILL: I had the opportunity to go on a 50 plus mile canoe trip this summer with the venture crew from our church this summer. It was a week long trip, the weather was excellent. We started at Diablo lake, portaged up to Ross lake canoed all the way up into Canada and then returned the way we came. We had great meals, a lot of swimming and some thrilling cliff diving. I am looking forward to taking the family there some time in the future.
Here is our crew having a pre-trip meeting. They are all a great bunch of boys.
We got a flat on the way up. We left at 4 in the morning to get to the ranger station to reserve camp sites. When we got the flat we were worried that we would not get the group sites we needed to match out trip plan. But all worked out just fine.
Getting started at Diablo lake. This is a very popular trip for boy scouts to get there 50 mile canoe trip merit badge. It also is a great high adventure trip for the scouts.
Portaging from Diablo lake into Ross lake.
Our first swim in Ross lake. The water was very nice.
In the trip we taught a Boy Scout leadership course called the Kodiak. We taught lessons every evening and did reinforcement exercises throughout the day.
We explored every river that ran into the lake that we could.
Canoeing in goose formation, a leadership reinforcement exercise.
Cliff diving... FUN
The gang on the third day of the trip.

Going into Canada. The split in the trees is the border.
Taking a break in Canada before heading back.
Another Kodiak lesson...
There were several incredible water falls that we were able to get close to. Very cool.
Our last day waiting to get halled back to Diablo lake. A very cool trip. I feel very fortunate that I was able to do this. Thanks Chey for letting me off the hook for a while....

My family canoed Ross Lake several times when I was growing up - it's a great place to take kids. Our other favorite spot is Bowron Lakes in BC, if you're looking for a little more adventure.
One word: JEALOUS! :)
