Labor Day weekend we spent at the Lake House for one last party before school. On Friday our good friends the Mahoney's joined us for a little fun in the sun.....and I spent hours talking to a dear friend rather than shooting pictures. :)

My Dad was with us for the weekend, and proved, as always, why he is a fantastic Grandpa.

He took time Friday night to teach both Deaven and Korban how to play the Saw, which provided lots of entertainment.

Before going out for the campfire, Dennese popped up some Kettle Corn in the Whirly Pot. Peyton and Malorie provided the entertainment at the campfire. They put on little mini plays and they were HYSTERICAL!! Malorie narrated and Peyton acted out whatever she was talking about. Good times!!

Saturday, we went up to Lake Cushman to do some more exploring. We found a great little spot to have a picnic, but despite it only being about 60 degrees and windy, it didn't take long for Deaven to jump in........and then the girls joined suit.

Getting some snuggles from Grandpa to warm up.

We drove a little further to the trail head for Staircase Rapids, which was a 2.5 mile loop trail through a beautiful forest. We never got a good picture of it, but we have a family tradition of finding fallen trees and walking down the length of them together. We found one that was BY FAR the longest and biggest we have ever found. It connected with a few others and sent us deep into the forest. Very fun for the kids.

This was a HUGE cedar tree that had fallen as well. It was incredible!

Grandpa enjoying his time in nature with his grand kids.

Typical Olympic National Forest with HUGE rocks everywhere.

At the peak of the loop, there is suppose to be a bridge to cross over this river. We knew the bridge was currently washed out before we headed out, and just planned to go out and back.

But once we got there, Will scouted it out and we decided that the river crossing was definitely doable with the kids.

Morgan getting ferried across.

The kids loved this part of the adventure.

Peyton found a hollowed out stump deep in the ground. The kids thought that was pretty fun.

Grandpa and I giving the girls a break. It amazes me how much I look like my Dad in this picture.

Sunday we went to church and then spent a relaxing day just visiting, reading and napping. Sunday evening, Will and I had to head back to Olympia, but my Dad offered to keep the two big kids for some extra adventure. After we left, my Dad performed one of his music showcases for the neighbors, which the kids LOVED. They have been singing the song ever since. My Dad is very talented on many instruments and writes many of his own songs.

Today was the first day of school. Deaven's in 4th grade and Peyton is in 2nd. We are excited about their teachers and feel they will have another great year at school.

Morgan starts Preschool tomorrow. It will be so weird to have three kids in school!! Kind of sad at the same time though. Luckily, preschool is only two days a week, which will give me some time to adjust. :)
