After six weeks in my walking cast for the fracture in my foot, I went back to the doctor for a check up. I had been SUCH a good patient, doing everything I was suppose to and NOT doing everything I wasn't suppose to. I've been super patient, but also very dedicated to staying in the best shape I could while the boot was on. Six weeks is not forever, right?
Unfortunately, when the doctor examined me, we were both caught off guard by how much pain I was still in, and how little progress that had been achieved during the last month and a half. My eyes immediately filled with tears of hopelessness.
The doctor rushed through my visit, which didn't help my mood and I came home devastated and in a ton of pain (more than I had been in in weeks). I cried on the couch with Will and felt the darkness creep in.
The next day was an unusual experience for me. We often talk in religious circles about the difference between our natural "mortal" man and our "spirit" or soul. We naturally want to be selfish and impatient, yet we constantly try to teach our spirits the characteristics of humility, patience and love.
As I went through my day, I could feel myself wanting to wallow in self pity, anger, sadness and hopelessness. I mean, my summer plans are in serious jeopardy, not too mention my Racquetball. I felt so, so sad.
But deep, almost buried inside me, I could hear the voice of my spirit screaming......"Don't give up. Hold on!" Depression is a funny thing. It's easy to almost want to reside there, but nothing good comes of it. Nothing. I could literally feel the battle rage inside me. It was almost like I was a spectator of it, though obviously I had a CHOICE to make. Which voice was I going to listen to?
Then I got a text from a good friend. It read:
"My mom used to say there was a man who complained that he didn't have any shoes.......until he met a man that didn't have any feet. It's gonna be okay".
Well, that put me in my place. I mean really. I can't be hurt forever, and obviously the Lord has a reason for this and things I need to learn. So I'll continue listening, and learning, and limping.......I guess.
I see the doctor again next week to figure out where we go from here. I'm kind of at a loss about what to do, so I've just accepted my circumstances and am trying to keep a smile on my face.
I mean, how bad can it be when you have these little angels by your side!!
Um, have I mentioned we have the flair of drama in our home? I am counting the days before these guys get to be in their first play.
I did get to stop in on a baby shower for a friend last week. Jen Woolf unfortunately is heading back to Las Vegas, but it was nice to have her back for awhile.
Last night I took my girls to go support Malorie at her Ballet Recital. She was so cute to watch. Morgan LOVED watching all the dancers.
Our family is counting down the days until we leave for camping!!! Only 8 more days!! Lake Chelan, here we come!!

Big hugs, Cheyenne. Huge ones.
So sorry to hear that recuperation is taking too long. I hope that you will be able to stay as positive as you are right now!
I'm sorry Cheyenne! I hope they can get to the root of the problem soon and figure out a way for you to heal quickly.
Your quote was perfect for me today. I had a little surgery to remove a growth today, and was feeling frustrated that I always have health issues, and thinking that childhood cancer was enough. That quote gave ne a much better perspective - I am so lucky to have had these past 25 years and give birth to three healthy kids! The other stuff is just a small price to pay for the great life I have. So, thanks for that!
Oh - and that Elizabeth George book from your last post- she is my favorite Christian author. Have you read A Wife After God's Own Heart of Life Management for Busy Woman? Another good one is Small Changes for a Better Life. She is great at giving practical advice and examples, supported by scripture.
Get better soon Cheyenne!
Hey - I loved catching up on all the fun things you do with your family. Hang in there with the foot-thing, can't be easy with your active lifestyle, but I love your attitude about it.
