We got to Pray, just to make it today!

We had a nice Family Home Evening the other night on Prayer. We asked the kids how they felt we did as a family in terms of prayers and the overall verdict was good, but we discussed a few things we all felt we could do better to become a more prayerful family.
Then we each made our own prayer rocks to help remind us to say our own prayers.
Seems like painting is always a hit in this house.
Here are a couple of our rocks:

I read a quote the other day that definitely made me think it bit. It says:

"A truly humble woman doesn't think too highly of herself.....or too lowly either. She simply doesn't think of herself at all...her only thought is how to be of service to others".

Okay, now before the debate begins on this, let me just say that I think one of the BIGGEST keys to a successful home and family is a mother WHO TAKES TIME TO INVEST IN HERSELF ON EVERY LEVEL, PHYSICALLY, SPIRITUALLY, EMOTIONAL, MENTALLY. Super, super important.

But there is a huge difference between taking time for yourself and spending your day thinking only of yourself.........your feelings, your to do list, your needs........instead of moving into the rest of your day with more of an attitude of how your actions can improve the lives of those around you.

Does that mean I need to be running meals to other families and babysitting everyone's kids for them........maybe. But more often than that, it means something more like, dropping what I am doing completely for a few minutes when my husband gets home from work to really engage with him. Or maybe it would mean that when my kid starts talking to me about something I'm really not all that interested in, that I actively listen to them, even asking more questions about what they are talking about instead of just glazing over and muttering a few, "uh huh, yeah, that's great honey".

I think it's natural for us to always think about #1. That's instinctive. It takes effort to really focus on the needs of others (with out having the immediate follow up thought of how this is affecting us), but again, I don't think this quality requires all that much more time from us, just a change in heart and perspective.

The big news in our house right now is that both Deaven and Peyton have been asked to participate in the Team's at Gymnastics. It's definitely a step up in commitment (and money) and the kids have enthusiastically agreed to "work" at little to contribute and show their dedication. They are both very excited about getting to the next level and starting to compete a bit. I'm not sure how long this Gymnastics thing will play out for them, but it's setting a good foundation for ANYTHING they choose to do from here.

The saga of my foot continues............
So, I went to start pursuing another opinion about my foot, because frankly, after six weeks in a walking cast, having no improvement is unacceptable to me. Stress fractures are slow, but they do heal and six weeks should have sent me in the right direction.

My new doctor immediately sent me to get an x-ray after hearing my story. Funny part, the xray showed NO SIGNS of a fracture of that there EVER WAS a fracture (new bone growth would indicate that and is bright white). Bottom line.........I was probably misdiagnosed and just wasted 6 weeks.

Unfortunately, whatever is wrong (tendon, ligament) is still wrong and hopefully the walking cast did protect that (and kept me from using it). My new doctor has also referred me to a Sports Medicine Doctor that I will start seeing. They have ordered a MRI for me, which will hopefully provide some answers in a few weeks.

Patience is a virtue, right???
