Family Night on Honesty

 Yet another Odie picture!  The kids just can't get enough of this little guy!

 Morgan decided one morning that she wanted to make wind chimes.  I think there might have been a little idea help from Blue Clue's, but she was able to make these almost completely by herself.  She made one for her teacher that just left on maternity leave.

FAMILY NIGHT ON HONESTY:
Last night we focused our Family Home Evening on Honesty, which seems to be a topic that needs reviewing in our home sometimes.  We started by talking about how important honesty is to God and used some scripture stories to illustrate that (like Ananias and Sapphira Acts 5:1-11).  We talked about some stories from their school life as well.

Then we played a game called "Sweet Detective".  I had prepared some messy treats, Oreos with crumbs all over them, slightly melted marshmallows and super powdery donuts.  Everyone but one person left the room while the one left got to eat a treat.  When we all came back in, we tried to figure out what treat they had eaten.

 Morgan LOVED looking for the little clues to figure out who had eaten what (like the powder on Deaven's shirt or the Oreo crumb in front of Peyton).  Morgan, of course, went for the marshmallow.

We then talked to the kids about how when we choose to lie, there is always a trail that follows us (even if it's nothing more than our guilt).  Even when we think we've covered our tracks, we never have.......and we can never hide our lie from God, who's opinion matters most anyway.

 Then we had the kids go upstairs and put their pj's on.  While they did, Will and I set up a big spider web in our kitchen.

We met the kids upstairs and had them watch this video about a banana spider catching and wrapping up a wasp.  The first part of the video (which you don't realize the first time you watch it) shows the spider doing this is super slow motion.....then around 2 minutes, it shows it in "real time" and how quickly that whole process actually happens. 

 We talked to the kids about how telling lies are like getting caught in a spider web and that when we do that, it makes it much harder to reach our goals. 

We went downstairs and showed the kids the "kitchen web" and asked them how long it normally takes to walk across the kitchen (like 1 sec) but with the web, it took them all over a minute....to reach their goal of getting to the other side.

 Deaven was at a slight disadvantage being the biggest. :)

After they played in the web for a bit, we sat back down and talked about the following quotes:

It was a great night and I think we got the message across.  This morning around breakfast, Will played this Mormon Message as well.
